Portland, Oregon Hospitals
Portland's Metropolitan area offers a wide range of award winning hospitals for residents to choose from. There are three main systems, The Legacy Health System, Providence Health System, and Kaiser Permanente. These three main hospital systems serve the greater Portland Metropolitan area and offer many services, branches, and clinics near most suburban communities.
Legacy Health System is a locally owned, non-profit hospital system of four hospitals (including a children's hospital), visiting nurses association, clinical research and technology center, with primary care clinics.
Providence Health System, including Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (Beaverton), Providence Portland Medical Center, Providence Milwaukie, and Providence Newberg Hospital have all won the 100 Top Hospitals Award nationally (HCIA Institute).
OHSU, Oregon Health and Sciences University also fondly called "The Hill" is an educational and research hospital near downtown Portland. OHSU has recently been receiving press for a long awaited opening in January 2007 of a connecting aerial tram to make "The Hill" more accessible with new buildings and services near I-5 below. Rides are being offered to the public to see the new OHSU sights.
In 2003, OHSU was chosen by an NRC survey of Oregon residents as "Best Hospital in the City". Consumers preferred OHSU in 8 subject matters, ranging from cancer treatment to community programs.
If you need special care for children, the children's hospitals include the Legacy Emanuel, Shriners Hospital (Portland), and OHSU's Doernbecher Hospital. Doernbecher Children's Hospital is the first full-service children's hospital in the Pacific Northwest. Specific areas of research that attract national attention to Doernbecher include cardiology, endocrinology, metabolism, neurology, and oncology (cancer).
